Dancing With Your Star!

If you've ever watched the popular TV show Dancing With The Stars, you probably can imagine how nerve wracking it must be for the inexperienced celebrity dancers to have millions of people watching their every step. ( Or misstep in most cases!) In contrast, the professional dance partner looks polished and at ease as they gracefully glide across the floor.

Most of you won't have millions of people watching you dance your first dance as Mr. and Mrs. Fabulous at your reception; however, every eye in the room will be on you as you make your way to the center of the dance floor.You can probably get away with your normal slow dance moves you've used as an anonymous couple on a crowded dance floor at other weddings, but you'll be surprised how long the music seems to be playing when you're the only couple dancing and guests are intent on witnessing this special tradition.

Late Night Snacks

Clearly I'm all about the food as I've stopped thinking about candy buffets for now and have moved on to the Late Night Snack trend. I don't see late night snacks going out of style anytime soon because of the fun factor of serving something delicious to your guests after they've worked off dinner and wedding cake on the dance floor. There are endlessly creative ideas when it comes to the late night snack. Your choice may depend on the time of year. If you're having an outdoor or tented wedding, having a trendy food truck pull up to serve freshly made tacos, gourmet pizza, ice cream or hot dogs is a fun surprise. The cooler months may inspire gourmet grilled cheese triangles served with a tomato soup shot. Sliders, and sweet potato fries in paper cones never go out of style. Freshly baked, warm cookies with cold milk shots hit the spot too. Geography sometimes lends a hand in the late night snack decision. If the bride or groom is from Chicago, for example, there's nothing wrong with serving up mini Chicago Deep Dish Pizzas at the end of the night. Of course Ben and Jerry came out with Late Night Snack Ice Cream, which is delicious, by the way would be easy and fun to eat if served in mini cones. Food for thought!

With all of the new wedding reception trends that surface each year, I'm glad to see that the candy buffet remains a popular choice for Brides and Grooms. I love the idea of anything that serves a dual purpose and a candy buffet does just that! An artfully designed table of sweet treats can add to the decor by matching the color scheme and can include some childhood favorites of the Bride and Groom. Besides, who doesn't want to tap into the inner child and take home a bag of specialty candy as a wedding favor? Photographers can get very creative with candy and details as you can from the images. I designed this candy buffet for a very sweet couple!

Sex and the City fans will remember the episode when Charlotte suggests to Trey that they get married. When Trey responds with "all righty", Charlotte is left with the feeling that she proposed to herself. She complains to Carrie "What am I going to tell my kids? Well Mommy really wanted to get married so she asked Daddy and Daddy said all righty."

The point is that your future bride will be telling the story of how you proposed for many years to come, so you'd better make it memorable!

YouTube is full of proposal videos. Some are clever and cute, some not so much. There's the "10 things I love about you" video which is heartfelt and well done. ( Don't try this yourself unless you can carry a tune along with the ring!) There was the live proposal on the "So You Think You Can Dance" show, a proposal at the Trevi Fountain in Italy, Disney, the Grand Canyon, etc. You get the picture. The common denominator in all of these proposals was the element of surprise. So whether you take her back to the place where you had your first date or first kiss, do your best to surprise her and put some thought into it.

New Beginnings. The holiday season is upon us and those of us in the Wedding Industry know that it is also Engagement Season. I'm not sure if the overall joy of the season motivates men to head to the jewelry store or if it's the benefit of killing two birds with one stone, but if they plan on giving their long time girlfriend a piece of jewelry in a small box, it had better be an engagement ring!

So to the men out there, here are a few tips for you!

An engagement ring should fit not only the finger of the bride, but her personality as well. Before you head to your favorite Jeweler, ask yourself these questions. Is your future bride traditional or contemporary? Will she appreciate the look of a ring passed down from your Grandmother or should it be redesigned to suit the times? Have you done your due diligence on diamonds? Do you know all about the 4 C's?

Cut- allows the diamond to make the best use of light, reflecting from one facet to another. The most popular shapes include Round, Marquise, Pear, Emerald, Oval, and Heart shaped.

Color- The best color for a diamond is no color at all! Light will pass through th diamond and disperse the brilliance.

Clarity- Most diamonds have flaws, or inclusions. The inclusions interfere with the light passing through the diamond so the fewer the inclusions, the more brilliant the ring.

Carat-is the weight of the diamond. One carat is divided into 100 points. For example, a diamond that is 75 points weighs .75 ct.

When it comes to diamonds, size really doesn't matter! The experts will tell you to buy the best colorlessness and clarity in a diamond that you can afford. Make certain the diamond is GIA Certified and comes with a GIA Certificate.
